Not entirely accurate afaik... Some personal firewalls, notably
Norton's will filter incoming html documents to remove all or
sometimes just certain javascript elements (popups for instance). But
I believe these generally actually function by examining and
selectively editing the html coming in off of the port rather than by
changing the browser settings internally. I could be wrong, but I had
a hard time understanding how it was that they could selectively
remove banner adds otherwise (a feature of Norton's last I knew).
