it was the rotation thing... that has got to be the dumbest setting i /have/ ever seen.
problem was ... i had one of my monitors plugged into another computer when i did it... so when i plugged the second monitor back in... it was right side up!!! i could drag stuff from the upside down screen to the right side up screen to type... what a pita!! thanks for the responses!
