One of our drummers I played with bought the Roland digital drum set.
(I *think* Roland made them. They were triangle-shaped with the corners
cut off a bit. The pads were black and the backs were white.)

He had the processor, of course, a single Kick with dual pedals. His
"snare" pad had the regular hit area, plus each of the three edges was a
pad as well. Basically, four pads on a single drum.

He had three other single-pad drums as well. He used regular cymbals
since he couldn't afford pads to simulate the cymbals.

They sounded great and you never had to worry about mic'ing problems.
We just ran it straight into the board. We also played with MIDI'ing
them to one of our keyboards. That was just fun, but we never did it
live.

He finally got rid of them because they didn't feel like a real set of
skins. I have heard that from many drummers who moved back from
electronic to acoustic.

When he was in high school, he was in band on the drum line. He
"borrowed" a deep marching snare from the school, painted it our colors
and used it for his snare. That thing would kick our asses! He never
had to mic it, for sure!

Here was my setup I had last summer when I started giging a little with
an old band that I played with for about 4 years....

Pearl Drums - Export (cheaper kit)
10,13,16 inch toms
2 X 22" Bass drums
14 X 6 1/2 " Snare
I may have had my picallo snare, I'm not sure and can't tell.... (14 X 3
1/3)

Sabian cymbals - AA
14 " hats
16 " Studio AAX crash
10 " AA splash
16 " AA Rock crash
18 " AA Medium crash
22 " AA Rock Ride
14 " AAX Mini-China

Who knows which cowbells and extras I set up in that pic... probably a
couple.
