we did one. we're now proud (?) owners of a timeshare :)

actually, it's not a horrible deal (timeshares themselves...but i'd
probably suggest to people who might be interested to look at buying
'used' as there are deals to be had).

Our resort is in Sedona, AZ, which is pretty much in demand, which
means we can easily trade it for a week in a different resort anywhere
else.

We also just recently upgraded it from a studio to a 1 bedroom...and
when we did they gave us a 2-for-1 cruise voucher, which we're cashing
in this Sept to go on a Disney cruise. Really looking forward to
that. My oldest will be just over 3, and my youngest just under 1
year. For the oldest, I'm sure she'll love being in the disney
environment...they've got day care and private babysitters available
which also leaves me and the wife time to do 'adult' things (interpret
as you will). Great ports (Key West, Cozumel, Grand Cayman)...and the
2-for-1 voucher gets us a balcony cabin relatively cheaply.

I know that's a bit of a digression from the original question...I'm
just really psyched about the cruise! :D
