OK, we were talking apples and oranges, but the ideas are pretty much the
same.

Broadcast can be over either unicast or multicast. (I'm unicast here in two
different senses for lack of a better word - 1) broadcast vs unicast and 2)
unicast vs multicast.

Multicast for the most part is going to be effective only in an area where
routers are configured to support IGMP, such as in a corporate network, but
not typically across the internet, at least in the US. Efforts like the
MBONE are in place but I know very little about them.

I ought to do some consulting as well, but I don't have the interest right
now.

Me < was Microsoft Support Engineer for Windows Media Services.

Erika, I'm in Charlotte, so I'm not too far away. Want to hire me? :-)

I am quite familiar with it. Check out http://collegerama.tudelft.nl/ where
I do some consulting on the Windows part of things :-)

That is not really what I meant. Even with individual unicast connections,
you can force users to watch a clip from begin to end without the
possibility to jump to certain points in it with certain codecs.

Broadcast (or multicast) is an entirely different category and is usually
only suiteable for live events.
