That's the problem - people don't understand what the press is for.
What you're describing is entertainment or pop culture "reporting"
like Access Hollywood, except your program would be called Access DC.

The press's job is to investigate and discover the truth behind what
the Government says. For example, Watergate. This is the basis of
the great American journalism "scoop". Newspapers, for example,
aren't just supposed to say, "The Whitehouse says Iraq sucks." They're
supposed to investigate why the Whitehouse is saying it, and what the
reasons behind it might be, or why they're mistaken.

Ms. Thatcher added private accounts to British pensions in the 80s and
when you combine that with the indexing of benefits to prices rather
than wages, Brit pensions are now in trouble. That is, Mr. Bush's
proposal has already been tried in Britain and failed.
