I wonder if anyone here has already researched the matter of Medicare coverage for assisted living and/or nursing home care? It's becoming an issue for an elderly relative and it's looking like it's going to get decided by Canadians who don't have a clue about American health care, so I think maybe I should research this and try to shed a little light.
Just to be quite clear, the relative in question is an American citizen who has lived in Michigan her entire life. If any of the Canadians on the list know for sure what would happen if she went to stay with relatives in Canada, I would appreciate that information also, but we think she would be ineligible for health care there and probably a little too sick for in-home care anyway. She is not indigent and owns quite a nice house in Grosse Point, but I do not know exactly what her assets are. She did work for at least part of her life but retired early, possibly on disability. She is in her eighties so I am assuming she has Medicare anyway. Any thoughts or links appreciated.
