The problem that you run into is compatibility... *TONS* of people know 
about Yahoo and MSN messengers.  I don't want to have to be responsible 
for teaching a client how to use an IM client *and* handling their web 
application development at the same time.

However I do agree that brining in a level of encryption would be good. 
    I wonder if there are modules that can be added on to the more 
popular platforms.
