First thing to do is take a formal letter to the school stating that NO information is to be released to anyone that asks for it via e-mail or by phone, fax, whatever. There should be a district policy about this, but this step needs to be taken in order to alert the school to a problem. Calling the school to report the issue is NOT ENOUGH (I cannot stress this too much)! Identify the name of everyone authorized to have any information about the kid. Any other person making an information request must be cleared by a person on this list. This must be explicitly stated or there will be no legal recourse (meaning no restraining orders can be issued by a court, not necessarily to sue the district at a later date(this is not the goal!)). Make sure the that letter is notarized and CC'd to the Principal of the school, the district supervisor (the principal's boss) and the District Communications Director/Manager (they'll be able to handle this with District IT). Second file an incident report with the school, the school district AND the police. A paper trail needs to be created and followed up on. Third follow up with YAHOOin writing, they may say "tough luck," etc. but the paper trail will be started in any case. IANAL But that is what i would do. FWIW, I asked for advice on this from my wife, who as a radio personality a few years back had to file restraining orders on three seperate occasions, so that advice comes from experience. she is also the Chairman of the Board for our kids' Cooperative School Program and as such is acutely aware of the school district policies and procedures for our district (YMMV slightly).
