I think we agree on the principle of the thing <g> But I do have a
news flash for you. The government already second-guesses the rights
of guardians. To some extent this is a good thing.

You are looking at it as an outrage to good spouses, but let me
explain something to you. Good guardians do not normally run afoul of
the the safety measures. If you take a child to the ER with let's say
a broken bone, and your account of what happened matches what the
doctor sees then a treatment is proposed and the child is released to
your custody as the doctor trusts you to make sure the child receives
the necessary treatment.

If your story does not match the injuries or the child's account of
the injury, or if the doctor suspects your child will not get what he
or she needs to get better, then guess what, your family's right to
privacy will not outweigh concern for the child and you may find
yourself being investigated.

That point has been reached in the Schiavo case. Quite apart from the
fact that basic diagnostics have not been done, no treatment plan has
been filed for three years and basic medical treatment, such as
antibiotics, has been denied. And yes, this is Terri's family's side,
but these are seious charges that don't go away because he is yelling
about his family's right to privacy.

I am all for families being left the hell alone, I really am, but not
when it means endangering people unable to speak for themselves.
