I read this in the WSJ which has a great site with all of the facts: "Ms. Schiavo suffered brain damage when her heart stopped briefly 15 years ago because of an apparent potassium imbalance. The estimated $1 million she and her husband received in a medical-malpractice case is nearly gone, spent on her care and her husband's legal expenses, Mr. Schiavo's lawyers have said. For the past couple of years, Ms. Schiavo's medical costs have been absorbed in part by the hospice caring for her but chiefly by Florida's Medicaid program."
