Yes, they are.  If the person doesn't ask for help, legally it's none
of our business; morally, maybe we could mention it to the victim, but
legally it's not our business.

I have considered your point and the reason I've dismissed it is
because Mrs. Shiavo was not a battered spouse and, even if she were,
it's shouldn't be the government's *policy* to question her judgement.

Your position favors having the federal government or popular opinion
make your parental and spousal decisions rather than you.
