welllllll...

seems there's this condition called "going quiet" that a submarine captain
will order so that they can evade detection. The idea of the episode was to
emphasize that sometimes the Command and Control elements of our armed
forces must trust the judgement of the commanders in the field. Also (I
think) it was a way for Sorkin to reveal some information he might have
learned (congecture on my part) on a visit to a submarine or perhaps by
watching the Discovery Channel one night.

One bright spot to the episode, Hal Holbrook showed up as the Assistant Sec.
of State. Managed to "out Bartlett" Bartlett with naval conflict trivia.

Oh yeah, I guess there was some "Prez disease" stuff: Mrs. --oops-- I mean
Doctor Bartlett had a meeting with the White House Counsel (Oliver?) at
which he revealed that the Grand Jury has no criminal case agin' the
President so they will be coming after the First Lady. Not really a big
development if one was paying attention at all last season...

He advised that Dr. Bartlett, take the "non-apologetic" route and
essentially tell the committee to go stuff themselves on questions about her
medical malpractice since it has no relation to the Prez.

a lot of stuff went on and yet, nothing really "happened"
