Gee I consider myself to be quite liberal and at the same time
consider government to be -- of all possible solutions to social
problems, likely the worst. Nor have I ever considered competition
unfair. I've often considered it harsh (given circumstance), but never
"unfair".

Well by that rather broad definition yea, I think you'd be
hard-pressed to find anybody. But then, by that definition, I'd think
you'd be rather hard pressed to have _ever_ met a liberal in the
history of human-kind. :)
I'm not sure I would fit your classification of "suburban" either --
I've never consistently earned enough money to both pay my child
support and live in the suburbs... Once, breifly while my ex and I
were still together during the dot-com era, we were able to rent a
semi-suburban house in Orlando, although that didn't last long.
