Here's my take:

>1.) Believes that competition is unfair.

We have courts and lawyers to sort out anti-competitive behavior. Our
ruthlessness in business is part of what makes us the biggest, most innovative
country in the history of the world.

>2.) Believes that government is the best solution to most social problems.

Larry's point abot the Civil Rights movement is key. Government should always
be the servant of the people, never the master. When politicians start thinking
they know best, that's when things get messy. Not to devolve into a subject
that has already been flogged to death, but the Schiavo case is a weird example
of conservatives trying to impose their sense of morality on a situation where
courts have all refused to step in.

>3.) Believes that people's fiscal mistakes or poor choices should be
>subsidized by government.

Sad. To borrow from the adage, the government should teach people how to fish,
but it should not be responsible for people who choose to sit around getting
high instead of going down to the river to catch fish.

>I've skipped over environmentalism since it's a truly conservative
>issue despite what everyone thinks ("Every good capitalist knows waste
>impoverishes us all." -- Adam Smith)

Ironical, ain't it?

>Does anyone believe those things anymore? I can't imagine they do if
>they work for a living.
