I agree with Dana on this: it was a private matter until the
Schindler's made it public.  They choose to do so by challenging Mr.
Schiavo in public court (instead of binding arbitration) and by
appealing to the public.

Once this issue was public it brought to light matters of law and
bio-ethics which deserve a public forum because, as technology
expands, these issues won't get easier.
