U.S. Trade Deficit Soars To A Record $61B

NEW YORK - In the headlines this morning, the U.S. trade deficit
surged to a record $61 billion in February.

That's up 4.3% from January's $58.5 billion trade gap and wider than
analysts expected. The increase was due to a $2.58 billion jump in
imports, especially of oil and textiles, which dwarfed a $50 million
rise in exports.

------------------

So remember, Mr. Bush's lead economic advisor, the guy who says US
citizens save too much (a whopping 0.6%), had predicted BIG export
numbers due to a cheap dollar. Let's look at the numbers:

Export rise: $50,000,000
Deficit rise: $2,580,000,000

Hmmm ... I'm no economist but I'd say the policy of the last 5 years
just isn't turning that predicted corner.
