Never mind, cracked it. Finally had to re-install both Tabbrowser
Preferences and Tabbrowser Extensions, then uninstall them "politely",
then "un-and-re-install" all my other extensions, testing pop ups as i
went. phew. At least it seems to have also fixed the problem i had with
the firefox.exe process not exiting.

just FYI, but i read a lot of people blaming a lot of things on
Tabbrowser Extensions...
