Bethesda used to be a sleepy almost rural suburb but it is very urban
nowadays especially right around the metro. There are a LOT of very
good restaurants within walking distance of the metro and access to
downtown by Metro is safe and about 20 minutes.

What I am trying to remember is whether there are hotels that would
have a Bethesda address that are not right at the metro. I think there
are a couple up off Democracy Boulevard. If the address of the hotel
is Wisconsin Avenue or Old Georgetown Road you are going to be walking
distance from the metro.

Line at Metro Center but this should be relatively painless especially
compared to DC traffic :)

I lived there quite a long time. I was most recently there in 2000 but
if it was highly urban then I don't see it becoming less so in the
intervening five years. Lots of really good ethnic food. High-end
bars. I take your staying in the same hotel as the event?
