You can bring up your Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, click on the CPU column header till it sorts CPU usage descending, then watch to see if something keeps grabbing your CPU at 100% during the times it's really slow. This started happening with me about a month ago when I installed Webroot Spy Sweeper and let it run resident, so now I run it manually instead. A few days ago it started happening again and Task Manager shows that each time savscan.exe (Norton Antivirus) grabs almost 100% of CPU for about 30 secs to a minute depending on the task. Maybe you can find something similar happening on your PC . . .
