I don't mind the normal ads. It's the inline text link ads hijacking text in the body of messages that bothers me. I've mostly quit using the AnandTech site because of it too.
Here's an example: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/messages.cfm/forumid:4/threadid:39687 Look at the "IDE" in Kevin Aebig's post. What's really annoying is that the inline links aren't part of the context of the message and from my experience usually have little or nothing to do with the content at hand. Like in this example they're talking about Flash but the ad is for a J2EE application server. (At least mine was. It could have just as easily been for a hard drive.) On the AnandTech site, they have them automatically sprinkled in on their articles. And what's funny is that it will often be an article for one company's product but the inline link ads are for a competitor's products. Just dumb. Fortunately, it doesn't really affect me since I use the email list. I do support Mike trying to find new ways to generate revenue and advertising is part of that. But the inline stuff is just annoying. And honestly Mike, I doubt I would pay since the email lists are fine as-is.
