(I'm talking about the comic book by the way, sorry if you're really into
construction.)

I'm an avid fan and even tho' we only get a (short) series every few years
he's so worth the wait. This is a six-issue series, "The Human Dilemma"
currently at issue four.

The book is black and white this time out (as all the originals were) and
ties up some of the long-running threads of the story.

His books tend to be more than a little preachy and this is no exception -
the topic this time out is over population and the range of beliefs
concerning it. Really well done and thought provoking.

The main story is that Concrete is hired as the spokesman for a billionaire
with a seemingly ridiculous program: couples who agree to be surgically
sterilized will get education and mortgage assistance. The idea is to
create "role models" for childlessness.

Of course many people have other opinions on this whole thing. One fringe
scientist feels the real solution is to engineer a "sterility" virus: having
sex without protection would make you sterile. Children could only be had
with planning.

Others believe that the money being spent on the program is simply being
wasted: that providing planning services to third world women would be a
much better and effective use of the money.

Still others believe that there is simply no problem. Advancements in
production will more than enable us to continue our current growth. More
people means more workers which means more taxes, more mind share, etc.

The outer story of spokesmanship gig is played against a backdrop of
Concrete and Maureen's expanding relationship and Larry's pre-marriage
jitters. Two unexpected pregnancies and an evolving, obviously deranged
character promise to make the last two issues exciting.

Each issue is endcapped with a few pages of early artwork from Paul Chadwick
(including some great work done to sell the long-awaited Concrete movie).
There's also an extra little written piece - some are fictional ("fans" of
Concrete talking about collecting memorabilia or an article describing
Concrete's appearance on a TV show) and other's aren't (Paul Chadwick's
personal opinion on the issue).

The books are on the pricey side ($3.50) but so very well worth it.
