My apartment just doesn't have any storage (three bedrooms but only two
closets in the place).

Right now I'm fine stacking them (I can't go higher... but we'll cross that
bridge later). But I think it's every collector's dream to have a little
room for their books.

Sliding shelves on counterweights for each box, little plastic index cards
with each books logo emblazoned upon it and some magical way to deal with
the "Superman" diamond numbers!

Ah, sweet, sweet fantasy. ;^)

Just slice down the bottom folds as many inches as you need, then trim that
much off the end of the box then make new folds in the same way as the old.
You won't have the nice little tab to lock the over the top fold in place,
but duct tape does that job (as it does every other). Besides, the weight
of the books will hold it closed regardless.

We used to do this all the time in this shop I "knew" in NY - they got free
shelving from someplace, but it was old fruit-stand shelving. Perfectly and
strong as hell - but just 5 or 6 inches too short. ;^)
