Dragon*Con is held over Labor Day weekend here in Sunny Atlanta, Georgia. It's one of the largest sci-fi conventions in the world... it's big enough that in the past few years they've moved to using the two largest hotels in Atlanta as their host hotels.
http://www.dragoncon.org It's worth checking out no matter what kind of sci-fi you're into. Last year there were 22 different programming tracks IIRC.
