For what it's worth, there's a Macromedia angle here... search term 
"'michael okuda' macromedia" pulls it all up.

A core of the original design group has remained throughout the 
different series. From Kirk onward, pretty much anything seen on a 
screen is Macromedia Director... 3D modeling & animation were originally 
done in Paracomp's Swivel (which merged with MacroMind, and later 
Authorware, to start Macromedia)... I've heard that the signage fonts 
were done in Fontographer, too.

It was fun getting support calls starting, "Hi, we're from Star Trek, 
and...."  ;-)
