I've built the PCs I've owned, save the first one which got me into PCs. Sure, off shelf will most likely save you money but the feeling you get when you finish piecing together your computer with your own 2 hands and hitting the power button is priceless. You built it from scratch. you can't find that feeling in the off the shelf systems. Just a note..
