Oh, that's right - you're an XBox guy.  I have PS2.

I have no idea about the monthly costs, but if you've already got 
broadband, all you need is a router and some cable.  You'd also need to 
have the adapter - which for Playstation 2 was only like $30.  Routers 
are cheap, so is the network cable.

PS2 doesn't charge for the online service.  Another reason that I like 
them better.
