A specific volume amount of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat
in the same way that a pound of lead is smaller than a pound of
helium-filled balloons, which is the point.

A pound of anything weighs the same as a pound of anything else, period.
Muscle does not weigh more than fat. Muscle is more dense and much more
firmer than fat. My advise is to throw your scale away, and never get on one
again! Buy a fat caliper for like $10 and start keeping measurements. Get a
measuring tape and once a month take measurements around your neck, chest,
hips, waist, thighs, calves, biceps, and wrists. Over time you will see
these numbers go down until you hit about 10% bodyfat at which time the
calipers will work best. Get the weight concept out of your head... I would
rather weight 250 and be 10% bodyfat instead of weighing 180 and having 30%
bodyfat!

Lowering calories is the best way to lose FAT. Shoot for 2lbs of fat loss
per week if you are trying to lose fat. Remember though, muscle burns more
calories than fat does so preserve, if not build more, muscle. Want to know
how many calories you need per day? Google the Harris Benedict Formula, it
will work wonders! Also, drink water!!!
