Actually, this isn't as rare as you might think. Maggots only eat dead tissue, so the woman had to be suffering from necrosis in that area, which means the nerves would most likely be severely damaged or dead, and she wouldn't be able to feel them. Did you know that maggots are now being used in hospitals to battle targeted necrosis? They actually place them under your skin near the decaying flesh and leave them in for days at a time while they eat it away. They have to add enough maggots so that your dead flesh is eaten faster than it continues to die, and once the little buggers are all caught up and fat and happy, they go in with forceps and pull them out one at a time. Then, if there is any question as to what caused your necrosis, they take the live maggots down to Pathology where they are put into a blender with some distilled water and pureed into a smooth fluid the consistency of a thin milkshake. The maggot shake is then centrifuged, separated, and analyzed. I'm told that some patients just can't stand the idea of scriggling maggots under their skin, eating away at their flesh, and they go a little crazy as a result -- especially if it's near the surface where it can be seen, and you see your skin slowly rise and fall in bumps. I hear some patients think they can hear the maggots eating away like hundreds of little mouths feasting on barbeque. If I ever had necrosis like that I would *love* to get the maggot treatment! I would name them all. I would encourage them to enjoy. When they started to move I would play dance mixes and try to find one that synched with their movements -- kind of like "Wizard of Oz" with "Dark Side Of The Moon." I would serenade them with Cab Calloway's "Everybody Eats When You Come To My House." Why? Because it defies fear. And besides, if you don't... THEN THE FEAR CAN JUST EAT YOU UP INSIDE!!! :) /* oh, now *that* was just going TOO far... */ Respectfully, Adam Phillip Churvis Member of Team Macromedia http://www.ProductivityEnhancement.com Download Plum and other cool development tools, and get advanced intensive Master-level training: * C# & ASP.NET for ColdFusion Developers * ColdFusion MX Master Class * Advanced Development with CFMX and SQL Server 2000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:157980 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
