Right now, I use them to skin my controls.  Within a theme, you can set a 
default stylesheet along with default declarations for your controls.  You can 
then set a theme at the page, directory, or application level, and also choose 
one programatically.

You should take a look at Master Pages first.  An absolute time saver.
