I completely agree.  The absence of American students at top grad
schools is truly shocking.  And there's another interesting thing:
sometimes the students who look foreign are actually 2nd generation
immigrant's kids that understand poverty.

Personally I have the feeling that many Americans have gotten lazy
when it comes to their careers.  They seem to have the impression that
they can just sit back, throw out a few CVs, and expect a decent
paying job for life.

The truth is that, for the rest of out lives, we'll all need to be
keeping our eyes on the latest trends and strategize about what that
means for our livelihoods.  Many times that's going to mean big
changes.

But it's better to define yourself than to have someone else write
your definition for you.
