Probably because you never saw columbia burn up -- just heard about
it. Hearing it after the fact doesn't usually instill the same sort of
immediate recognition of the event and you don't have the same sort of
shock -- just disbelief if anything. My memory of Challenger is
incredibly vague, but then I was only in 3rd grade.
