My father had his Federal Firearms license when I was a kid. I grew up
at Gun Shows; from the time I was 4 or 5 years old I attended 6 or more
gun shows a year until I joined the Marines. I then attained my own
Federal Firearms license and provided guns and accessories to a great
deal of the Marines at Camp Pendleton (yes I was a gun dealer). I also
competed for a number of years in target shooting as well as Trap and
Skeet shooting. I started shooting when I was about 5 or 6. I owned
(in dad's care) my first gun at about age 7 or 8. I purchased my first
gun(officially dad's gun) at about the age of 11 (I worked mowing lawns
until I saved up enough money to buy a Steven's single shot .410
shotgun)

I am still very pro-gun. However, I've not belonged to the NRA in over
20 years. They represent to narrow of a mindset for me. I support
greater controls on the purchasing and ownership of firearms as well as
stricter enforcement of existing gun related laws. I also believe there
should be mandatory firearm safety courses for anyone who owns, wants to
purchase or use a firearm.

If a parent leaves a gun so that a child can gain unsupervised access to
the gun the parent should be held responsible for reckless endangerment.
An owner of a gun should be held responsible for the use of that gun.
Therefore, guns and ammunition should be stored separately and both
should be locked except while in use. I believe that would result in a
reduction of gun related accidents, the number of incidents of guns
being used in a rage and the number of guns stolen from law abiding
citizens.

All that being said, I too still love the 1911 .45. You could drop it in
water, throw it in the sand pick it up shake it off and it would still
fire.
