They don't need to do anything to defeat America militarily - 9/11
proved that.  America is like a human fighting a wasp of equal
intelligence: sure, we have exponentially more destructive power but
we can't use it.  In the mean time the wasp is fast enough to
repeatedly sting us until we lose our will to fight.

That being said, the better point is that Europe will have enough
military strength to take on, say, an Iraq or an Iran without our
help.  So, in that sense, they're not dependent on us for security
like they were during the Cold War.

They're on their way to beating us there, but part of that is our own
financial stupidity.  I'd compare us to  Britain in 1800s - they had
their 100 years and today, while they're still powerful, they're a far
cry from their old strength.  The USA took the next 100 years and now
we're winding down so it'll be interesting to see who's next.

It could be Europe or India but I doubt China - there's no growing
strength there.
