Thanks for the link - here's what I've gone and gotten myself into:

We've been working with Packet8's Virtual Office since June of last
year. After almost a month of inconsistet and unproovable problems
we've decided to move our VoIP PBX in-house. I decided to go with
Asterisk for the software (running on our FreeBSD based
router/firewall). The only hardware needed we already have - the DTA
phone devices that we were using with Packet8.

When I originally posted my question I had just made the decision to
go with Asterisk. Now I have two internal extensions and am working
on a test connection with the company that is going to be our
provider.

It's a LOT of learning - more because one starts the race with
preconceived notions and has to wipe the slate clean before moving too
far into the scenarios.

It's also a TON of configuring. Asterisk is configured using a series
of different .conf files which all have to be synchronized to work
together.

What fun and joy!
