They usually touch down in the middle of nowhere and end up flinging 
unsuspecting prairie dogs around for a few miles before dissipating. I 
lived here for 7 years prior to heading to Chicago and never saw a 
single one, though the sirens went off a few times. Basically, if you 
live in California, you worry about earthquakes about as often as most 
Kansas residents worry about tornadoes, or coastal residents worry about 
hurricanes, etc.
