If you want the recursive down the diretory structure

At the command prompt
         c:\aDir\dir /s >aTextFile.txt

When I just need one directory (not recursive down a directory structure); I
do this at a cmd prompt c:\aDir\ dir>aTextFile.txt

Then I open and print or copy the contents of c:\aDir\aTextFile.txt.
