No - but it does invalidate much of what these people believe about the
bible.

It's not "spiritual free thinkers" that are causing issues on this front -
its biblical literalists.

The world IS 6-some-thousand years old. The world WAS covered completely by
a flood. Each species was brought into being "after its kind" by God and
did not evolve.

May argument/wonderment is why these people seem to want, desperately want,
scientific evidence for their beliefs. They search for Noah's Ark, they
posit claims that the action of the Colorado could have produced the Grand
Canyon in less than 5,000 years, they test (and ignore the results) and
retest (and ignore the results) the Shroud of Turin.

Could not God has instilled his young creation with so much ambiguity simply
as a test to the faithful? For surely if there is ambiguity then it must be
God's work? Isn't any attempt to eliminate that ambiguity going against the
will of God?
