According to this article, Matrix Online sold only 43,000 copies. 'Variety said today, "Mediocre sales have undoubtedly caused some headaches at Warner, which is believed to have spent close to $20 million on its first video game project." Variety reports NPD Group numbers record US sales of just 43,000 units sold through April.' http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/17/news_6127635.html
I don't even know if I should be amazed or not at those low sales numbers. I know I didn't even consider the game for an instant. The sequels to the original movie really sucked the magic out of the first one and the Enter The Matrix game was so bad that when I saw ads for a new game I was honestly wondering who was going to get fired for that decision. But I know that a lot of people still love the movies and the ideas of them and figured that maybe I was wrong about MMO games losing their appeal as the market becomes saturated. But unfortunately for Warner, my lousy business sense was apparently more right than theirs. What's really interesting in the article though is the deal that Warner is giving Sony Online Entertainment rights to create games based on DC comics. "The deal announced today also includes the right for SOE to produce a single MMO, next-gen superheroes game based on the Warner-owned DC Comics character library." That comes at a time when Marvel is pissing people off by suing gamers of City of Heros who create characters that are inspired by Marvel characters. -Kevin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:161181 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
