I noticed a new message on a web site that I frequent. It mentioned
that any "obscene" images must be removed, or genitals must be covered.
No sexual acts may be displayed on any pics.

This is the warning that was displayed on the site, more or less:

"Last month the federal government passed new rules that affect how
adult-oriented content can be displayed online. Under the new rules, if
we post any pictures of a person having sex (oral sex included),
masturbating, or showing his/her genitals in a sexually graphic manner,
we have to acquire and maintain very explicit records about the person
in the pictures. Among the records we would need, for example, is a
copy of the person's drivers license."

It goes on to say:

"Other websites may choose not to take similar action. Be warned that
the new laws are very broad. You as the uploader of explicit content
could also face harsh consequences for such photos.
By uploading a sexually explicit photo to any website, you could be
defined as a primary producer and according to the new laws, you may be
required to keep extensive physical records, even on yourself, about all
pics you upload. Failure to comply could result in prison.
Please protect yourself, seek legal council, don't believe what a friend
or another website tells you."

What the fuck are they doing on Capitol Hill?
