I know a guy who used to be a spammer. We partnered on something once.
Just before we inked the deal, he sat me down and explained his past. He
wanted to make sure I heard it from him if the issue ever came up. He was
totally ashamed of himself and totally reformed, but he got started on it
before he really know much about the Internet or understood it. Now he owns
a small ISP and is totally and fanatically anti-spam. Quite a
transformation.

Wouldn't you love to meet a spammer face to face. I mean, I can't
imagine all of these guys are heartless bastards. _Some_ of them must
have some remorse... and I'd just _love_ to see them realize how much
what they do bugs us. Ditto for telemarketers.
