ya :) I beieve they may be the same sect that practices the art of making bonzai mountains. There are also some great jokes in Thief of Time about never underestimating a wizened old man carrying a broom.
But Vimes, Vimes is a masterpiece, a dead-on portrait of a working-class Brit who does his job and is his integrity. I remember reading somewhere that the greatest strength of the British Empire was the ability of its farmboys to become infantrymen to look a charge in the face and stay put. I don't want to speak for Paul Vernon as I am not exactly British despite the passport, and definitely not English, but I think this is the sort of pride and stoicism he was taking about in his post.
