ya :) I beieve they may be the same sect that practices the art of
making bonzai mountains. There are also some great jokes in Thief of
Time about never underestimating  a wizened old man carrying a broom.

But Vimes, Vimes is a masterpiece, a dead-on portrait of a
working-class Brit who does his job and is his integrity. I remember
reading somewhere that the greatest strength of the British Empire was
the ability of its farmboys to become infantrymen to look a charge in
the face and stay put.

I don't want to speak for Paul Vernon as I am not exactly British
despite the passport, and definitely not English, but I think this is
the sort of pride and stoicism he was taking about in his post.
