Yup - at this point even a kangaroo court is better than none at all. I think this all boils down to the fact that we want our government to act, in any situation really, better than we would individually. Were it up to me, and me alone, these men would have been executed long ago. They attacked my country, kill 'em dead. Or maybe put them to forced labor. Same with child molesters - just kill 'em as cheaply and as quickly as possible. Then, for good measure mulch their corpses to let some flowers grow. There are billions of other people on the planet - we're not going to miss these few. Why should we spend so much time and effort with these very few people? And if somebody innocent gets accidentally executed? So what, it's not they're an endangered species. If I (or any of us) were to be given control to let our emotional responses run rampant that could very well be the result. Instead we put faith (but never blind faith) in our government to take the time to "do things right" and not to be emotionally bound into regrettable actions. We want our government to represent the best and most noble of our thoughts when we have trouble finding them in ourselves. Of course our government is made up of people who are just as emotional, petty and stupid as ourselves. The point of the structure of government is (in theory) to provide balance to allow that more noble nature to shine through. How that for an idealistic tangent... I really should never get up before 10am. ;^) Jim Davis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:164420 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
