But... but... Just some good ol' boys? Never meanin' no harm? I agree that the symbol was never meant to be racist on the show AND that it is generally a racist symbol. I also think that some people really do consider it a proud symbol of southern heritage and, perhaps, a reminder of southern shame. In this light it's a good symbol. But it's not the first time (and it won't be the last) that a potentially good symbol has been sullied by extremists. Of course that's what you get when you produce a show about the south in California. "We want to name the car." "Yeah, somebody famous from the South!" "How about 'James K Polk'?"
