The last time I'd heard about something like this it was somewhere
here in Florida... iirc... it's been a while... but I believe I
remember hearing that they were using pretty inexpensive machines and
had set them up so that they were basically useless outside the school
grounds... but then if they've eliminated the textbooks entirely
having the machines only work on campus would eliminate homework
assignments. Woohoo! I hope that's the case... you know, they always
say homework is supposed to prepare you for the real world, but then
who's real world are we talking about? Because any decent job doesn't
demand that you take you work home with you every single night. Plus
in the real world you don't have to suddenly drop everything and go do
something else every hour on the hour... you know... in retrospect,
for something that's supposed to prepare kids for "the real world" I
can hardly think of an environment that's less like the real world
than high-school. But I digress...
