I think I found the solution. I tried the MD5 algorithm and it appears
that I am getting consistent results.

I should have guessed. My initials are also MD.

Subject: Blackboard User Accounts and Encrypted Passwords

I'm toying with batch-loading user accounts in to Blackboard. I can do
the simple text file import, but I would rather dump the data directly
into the Bb database. We do not yet have any hooks into our student
system. Our student system is being migrated to Datatel's Colleague
product and is not ready for the hooks.

So far, the only issue is the password is encrypted in the database.

My first question is: Does anyone know the encryption method Bb uses
for their passwords?

If not, my next question is: If I know the original password value, and
I also know the final encrypted value, can I arrive at the encryption
method?

For example, can I try the CF encryption schemes and if I find a method
that gives me the correct encrypted string, from a known value, would
that always work?

Thanks
M!ke
