Just a thought: Doohan arranged to have his ashes scattered in space by a private company.
Now that NASA's had to delay the shuttle launch and can do it I'm thinking they should offer to do it on that flight. Sure it would be part publicity stunt (which they could really use) but it's also pretty clear that "Trek" has played an important part in getting people interested in space exploration. "Scotty" epitomized that NASA sense of engineering gumption and excellence. I think it would be a nice thing to do.
