We'll see - although it is promising.  The same team tried a few years ago
with Sedna (a body about two-thirds the size of Pluto). 

Personally I'm with those that would leave the official "Planet" designation
for the larger bodies with Pluto as an honorary, "grandfathered-in" planet.
But it's really all personal opinion.

All that said I still these largest of the small bodies should continue to
be given names.  I'm curious what name the team suggested.
