Yeah... I generally hit the hay around 3am or so. I've been trying to build up gumption to do some actual work but just seem to wander off. ;^) > I liked The Village. I liked a lot of it... but it just fell really flat for me at the end especially. The staging of the scenes was generally wonderful and I had very few problems with the acting (although I thought the actors were struggling to rise above their dialog). > I guess I was more interested in the character dynamics than the > actual story. The story itself was pretty lame, I have to admit. The > premise is one of those fanciful ideas people have that just don't > really work. But I guess that's sort of the point. Yeah... the more I think on it the more I think it was the end that killed it for me. Imagine if the whole "reveal" ending was gone and, instead, we see Ivy reach the wall, begin to climb over and then fade to black. We switch back to the village, some time later - and Ivy's returning. She enters the room and pulls from her satchel modern medicine bottles with a pharmacy logo, typed printing, etc. It ends there. No explanation of exactly how she got it (since that was the stupidest part to me) or how they could stay hidden (there were enough hints about the rich grandfather already to made some guesses). I would have much, much preferred this kind of subtle reveal (reinforced by the parents looking through their memory boxes) to the heavy-handed smack we got.
