About the security system: make sure you get EVERY window and every
door along with motion detectors in all major rooms. Also get key
pads in all the rooms you think people will be sleeping in: the master
bedroom of course, and then all of the others including a corner of
the basement you think a bedroom might be in. This way people can
shut off the security system when they wake up.

About the basement: in MN in order to call a downstairs room a
"bedroom" it has to have egress windows - that is, windows that people
could climb out of in case of a fire. Getting them put in place now
is WAY easier than digging up your yard later. And for resale you'll
finish the basement eventually.

Also I'd get a sump in your basement with drain tile all around the
perimeter of the house that drains into it if there's even a hint of
water in your area. Every house I've owned has gotten a flooded
basement and every time people have said, "oh that never happens here.
 Don't worry." LIARS!

After we had a wet basement twice we got flood insurance which 2
insurance people wouldn't even sell us because we didn't live on a
flood plain. Finally we got the insurance and about 3 months later we
got the "rain of a century" and half our town had flooded basements if
they didn't cave in - house insurance didn't cover any of it and
because it was only a single town there was no state or federal aid.
Luckily we had flood insurance!

In our current house we've got the drain tile which empties into a new
sump pit and then I've got a 1/2 HP Rigid sump pump and a 1/4 HP back
up pump connected to a battery. As God as my witness I will never
have a wet basement again!

One other thing I'd get if I had to do it again is zone HVAC. This
way you can have the master cooler than the rest of the house, etc.
If you'll have a finished basement it should have it's own HVAC and if
you have humidity GET AN INDUSTRIAL DEHUMIDIFIER!

No room in your house should have humidity above 50% or you'll get
mold, musty smells, and dust mites. The basement is the place this'll
happen - in fact in most finished basements the RH under the carpet is
100%. Mold heaven.

I bought a Therma-stor Santa Fe which is awesome! It completely
changed the air in our house. I've recommended it to some friends and
they've all been really happy too. It's spendy but WAY worth it:
